Hanna Pylväinen – Whodunnit and What-Happens-Next: Suspense (January 2025)

This class considers suspense more broadly, looking at two common forms: proairetic and hermeneutic modes of suspense, and more specifically, looking at how a touch of the hermeneutic may ultimately aid the proairetic. We’ll also consider the relationship between the therapeutic novel and hermeneutic suspense and the role of each in contemporary literary writing.
